Chelsea manager Andre Villas Boas believes that the self belief of Fernando Torres is returning slowly and that it is only a matter of time before he starts scoring goals that made him a household name in England after his arrival from Spanish club Atletico Madrid.

The 33 year old manager has been mixing freely with the misfiring star and is trying to bring Torres out of his shell, which he appears to have been in ever since his arrived at Stamford Bridge for a British record £ 50 million transfer fee from Liverpool on deadline day last January.

According to a Spanish newspaper, Torres rarely mixed with the other players in the dressing room when he first joined Chelsea, but, with the arrival of Villas Boas as the manager in August, things have changed somewhat for Fernando Torres as he has started to be much more open in the dressing room, sharing light hearted moments with the players, and in particular Petr Cech.

According to a Chelsea insider, Villas Boas believes that Torres felt suffocated at the added pressure to succeed at a club like Chelsea (and his £ 50 million price tag) but now the Portuguese manager believes that the 27 year old is starting to play with a lot more confidence and one can see the glimpses of the touches that made him such a deadly striker in Spain and England.

The arrival of fellow Spaniards Juan Mata as well as Oriol Romeu also helped Fernando Torres come out of his shell and Villas Boas can now see a more confident and committed player day in, day out at the training sessions, so it should just be a matter of time before he starts scoring for fun again.

Might be time to start placing Premier League bets on Torres to start the scoring again…? 🙂
