Chelsea interim manager Roberto di Matteo has said that he is extremely sure that Fernando Torres should be part of the Spanish squad for the Euro 2012.

The Spaniard has been left out of the last national team squad by manager Vicente del Bosque after a poor run of form for Chelsea.

However, he has been showing signs of returning back to his best by contributing a number of assists for Chelsea in recent matches, while he also scored a goal that was reminiscent of the past in the match against Aston Villa recently. Even though Roberto di Matteo left out Torres for the matches against Tottenham and Barcelona, he is expected be recalled to the side when they face Arsenal during the weekend.

The £ 50 million striker had a torrid run of form, but scored in the matches against Leicester City and Aston Villa. Spain are looking to introduce Valencia striker Roberto Soldado in the squad for the Euro 2012 given the way that the former Real Madrid striker has performed this season.

David Villa and Fernando Torres have been one of the main reasons for the recent success for Spain in the European Championships and in the World Cup. Due to the injury to the Barcelona striker David Villa, this could possibly be the first time in more than eight years that Fernando Torres and David Villa are not part of the Spanish national team squad.

“I think he’s been doing very well, especially in this last period. He’s been scoring goals and assisting goals. I’ve been very pleased with him and I have no doubt that he should be in the team for the Euros,” said Di Matteo. “I think it’s fair to say we need two perfect games from our point of view against this team,” said the manager about the Barcelona match.
