Villarreal defender Pau Torres has revealed how he met Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres in an interview with Spanish football specialist GuillemBalague. According to him, he met Fernando Torres and Rangers manager Gerrard when they were still on the payroll of Merseyside giants Liverpool.
Villarreal centre back Torres has been linked with a move to the Premier League with Manchester United said to be keen on a move for the 24-year-old. The Red Devils are rumoured to be in the transfer market for a central defender to partner club skipper Harry Maguire in defence and Torres is one of the names on their shortlist.
On the Premier League, Torres told Spanish journalist Balague that he has heard good things about the league from ex-Villarreal player Rodri as he hinted that a move to the English top flight won’t be a bad idea for any player. Fellow Spanish national team playerRodri has spent two seasons at Manchester City following his transfer from reigning Spanish champions Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2019 and he won the Premier League title with the Citizens at the end of the latest league season.
Torres and Rodri have been named as part ofthe 24-man squad by Spain national team manager Luis Enrique for Euro 2020.
On the speculation over his future, Torres said he’s a Villarreal player at the moment and that he still has three years left on his current deal. He was part of Villarreal history as the Yellow Submarines won the Europa League title this season.
