MADRID HOPE FOR BETTER FATE

Top Spanish outfit Atletico Madrid is hoping for the best when the season kicks off despite a few stumbles on the way in the pre season games.

The team is set to open the La Liga at home against newly promoted Alaves on Sunday. The third placed team in the last campaign is hoping to cause an upset as they did a few years ago to lift the La Liga.

TORRES ENJOYING HOLIDAY

Fernando Torres was pictured with his partner enjoying his break after being snubbed by Vicente Del Bosque for the Spain national team at the Euro 2016. The player treated himself to a trip to the Maldives.

Torres ended the last campaign with 12 goals and five assists in 44 appearances in all competitions for Diego Simeone’s men. His performance was a much better one compared to his previous campaigns with the likes of Chelsea and AC Milan. Del Bosque decided to not take him to France, with the Spain coach opting to select the likes of Alvaro Morata and Aritz Aduriz instead at the tournament where Torres once helped win.

Torres himself is still having concerns about his future with Australian A-league side Sydney FC saying they would not be able to cope with the huge weekly wages the player commands. The 32-year old striker was linked with a move away this summer though there are reports that Simeone wants him to remain at Atlectico.

TORRES RANKED POORLY

Atletico Madrid striker, Fernando Torres has been ranked poorly for his performance in the final of the UEFA Champions games against Real Madrid played over the weekend. The Spain international was inconsolable after the loss of the match played at the San Siro.

Torres was reduced to tears in what seemed a repeat of the 2014 final where Atletico Madrid lost to their rivals despite putting up a strong attempt. Then, the same Diego Simeone led team were up in the game by 1-0 and were also set to lift the Champions League trophy for the first time since 1956. They led till the final minute before a Sergio Ramos header forced the game to extra time. Madrid capitulated on the equalizer and weakness of the Atletico side to defeat them a surprising 4-1.

TOUGH WEEK

This is proving to be a very tough week for the Chelsea fans. Firstly because one of their highly talented players Juan Mata got sold to Manchester United and then just a few hours later, the news came through that Fernando Torres, the Spanish forward, might have to spend 4-5 weeks away from action due to the ligament injury that he had picked up while playing against Manchester United.

STILL TRYING

The career of Fernando Torres started going downhill ever since the moment, the Spanish forward made a move from Liverpool to Chelsea.

Once considered to one of the best strikers in the world as he played alongside Gerrard and now a player that is lucky to find any kind of playing time in the Premier League.

Mourinho has made Fernando Torres better

Former Manchester United right back Gary Neville has hailed the impact Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has had on striker Fernando Torres and has credited him for the revival of the player who was the star performer for the side as the Blues ran out 2-1 winners against fellow Premier League contenders Manchester City last weekend at Stamford Bridge.

Valencia plan swoop for Fernando Torres

Spanish giants Valencia are lining up an audacious move to bring Chelsea striker Fernando Torres back to Spain as they look at life without their star striker Roberto Soldado.

The Spanish international Soldado is close to completing a big money move to the Premier League after the cash strapped outfit decided to cash in on their star striker after Tottenham Hotspur met their £ 26 million valuation of the striker.

Competition good for Fernando Torres

Jose Mourinho believes Chelsea’s record singing Fernando Torres will only benefit from the club’s attempts to strengthen its forward options over the summer transfer window.

The Spanish striker and Senegal international Demba Ba were the only two senior strikers on the books of the Blues under Roberto di Matteo and Rafael Benitez last season and the club has already signed German international Andre Schurrle this summer and Belgian forward Romelu Lukaku has also returned from his loan spell at West Bromwich Albion.

ALL ABOUT HAZARD

Signed from the French club Lille in the summer for around £32 million, Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard has managed to establish himself as one of the important members of the squad over the last few months.

Even though Hazard had an impressive start to the Premier league career, he was somewhat overshadowed by the problems surrounding the striker Fernando Torres. During the first half of the season, Hazard primarily contributed to the team in the way of assists. However, the last few months have been excellent for the 22-year-old in terms of goals as well.

TORRES NOT AT HIS BEST

The Chelsea midfielder Yossi Benayoun has said that the striker Fernando Torres has not been at his best during the two years at Chelsea because he has been poorly managed by the West London outfit.

Fernando Torres was £ 50 million signing for Chelsea back in the January transfer window of 2011. Since joining the blues, Torres has been a shadow of his former self. He has managed to score less than one goal in three games. During this period, he has worked in the four different managers in the form of Carlo Ancelotti, Andre Villas-Boas, Roberto di Matteo, and Rafael Benitez.
