Fernando Torres is currently playing for Athletic Madrid on a loan deal which runs out in the summer and when this time arrives, Torres will have to make a return back to Ac.Milan but Diego Simeone of Athletic Madrid has the option of signing Torres on a permanent deal, the Spanish manager has recently stated that he isn’t sure about whether or not to take up the option of permanent signing the 31 year old forward.
Torres still continues to struggle trying to score consistent goals as he has only managed to score 2 goals in 22 appearances for Athletic Madrid in this season and to make matters even worse, Torres recently picked up an ankle injury.
Diego Simeone has to take into consideration the recent ban that FIFA has imposed in Athletic Madrid which prohibits the Spanish club in being able to sign new players for the upcoming 2 transfer windows. If Simeone is not able to add players to his squad, it’s extremely important for him to consider what options he has at his disposal before deciding to release some of his own players.
Even with the mediocre performances that Fernando Torres has displayed and despite his lack of scoring goals on a consistent basis, he has still managed to earn the support from the fans of the club and he’s actually one of the fan favorites of the entire club.
However, Simeone is not in a position to take risks. Athletic Madrid is tightly contending against the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid in the top spots of the Spanish League, La Liga and trying to keep hold of a player who has been doing nothing else than disappointing in these past few years is not something that might be too risky for the head coach of Athletic Madrid.
