Manchester United legend Shaun Goater believes Pep Guardiola is just getting started with the Citizens and there is plenty more to come in terms of trophies. The Spanish tactician guided the Citizens to a domestic treble last term and that was the first occasion whereby any Premier League side had achieved the feat.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Goater said that Guardiola has always been a serial winner, considering the number of titles won at each of the clubs he has managed. He added that the Spaniard has a winning mentality and should deliver more success for the Citizens, he quipped: “I think there’s still more to come with Pep Guardiola and his never-say-die, his winning mentality to win. Pep is a serial winner and he has won so many finals. He’s unbelievable so, as I say, we know that there’s more to come.”
The Mancunian giants have won the Premier League title under Guardiola for back-to-back campaigns and they are on course to make the hat-trick next season barring a strong challenge from one of their main Premier League rivals. Aside from this, the club could place more emphasis on the Champions League next term, considering they have failed to progress beyond the quarter-final stage under the current head coach.
Manchester City have been quiet during the opening month of the transfer window but reports have emerged that they could pursue a new midfielder and central defender. Atletico Madrid’s Rodri has been widely regarded as the option to succeed Fernandinho for the long-term and they are suggestions that a deal for the Spaniard could be finalised before the pre-season tour.
On the other hand, the Citizens are also looking for a new central defender after witnessing the departure of Vincent Kompany. Leicester City’s Harry Maguire has been earmarked as the prime target to reinforce the position ahead of next season.
